September 21st 2025 Meeting

The September meeting of EAA Chapter 1467 was held at Gilbert International Airpark and hosted by Ron Angerman in his hangar. President Eddie Brennan called the meeting to order with 26 members present—just shy of the number needed for a voting quorum—so no official business requiring a vote could be conducted. Members enjoyed lunch provided by the “lunch bunch,” and attendees were reminded that the 2025 SC Aeronautics Commission Pilot Directories and Maps were available free of charge.

Secretary Debbie Philbin noted that August’s minutes were posted on the TTF website and available in print at the meeting. Treasurer Jim Matthews was unable to attend, so Eddie Brennan delivered the treasurer’s report, confirming that the chapter’s finances remain sound and that there are no outstanding liabilities.

Safety Coordinator Don Schmotzer presented a briefing focused on the importance of fully understanding an aircraft’s fuel system, including magneto function, proper fueling procedures, and verifying usable fuel quantities. Several members added personal experiences and additional tips during an active discussion.

Ray Scholarship Update: Larry Philbin reported on behalf of Ana Filich, who is studying for her written pilot exam with help from CFI Roger Kohls. Completion of the exam by the end of September is necessary for the chapter to receive the remaining portion of her scholarship funding.

During the EAA VMC segment, Eddie led discussion on the topic of “Distress Condition,” highlighting when and how to declare distress or emergency situations in accordance with FAA regulations.

Guest Speaker: Roger Kohls gave an engaging demonstration of the Windy weather app, showing members how to access detailed forecasts and meteorological data useful for flight planning.

Upcoming Events:

Triple Tree Fly-In (Woodruff, SC): September 22–28

Next Meeting: October 19 at Ron Angerman’s hangar – theme “Favorite Fall Foods.”

President Brennan thanked everyone for attending and participating, and the meeting concluded at 2:50 PM.
