EAA Chapter 1467 members gathered at Gilbert International Airpark for another outstanding afternoon of aviation fellowship, hosted by Ron Angerman in his hangar. Members enjoyed a shared luncheon, welcomed several guests, and spent time reconnecting with fellow aviation enthusiasts. Chapter President Eddie Brennan thanked everyone who helped make the event possible and recognized the volunteers whose efforts continue to strengthen the chapter's welcoming atmosphere.
Eddie let everyone know that the 2026 SC Aeronautics Directories are available to anyone that wants a copy and credited our guest speaker, Denise Bryan, with providing copies for us. Also, we now have TTF patches available for $10 each and Eddie thanked Kevin Johnson, for spearheading this project to have them designed and produced for our chapter to sell.
Safety remained a central focus of the meeting as Safety Coordinator Don Schmotzer led an engaging discussion on in-flight system failures and the importance of maintaining situational awareness when unexpected problems arise. Through real-world aviation examples and member participation, the presentation reinforced an important lesson for every pilot: when something goes wrong, focus on the resources and capabilities that remain available rather than dwelling on what has been lost. The monthly VMC and IMC discussions also generated valuable conversation on aircraft weight and balance, thunderstorm avoidance, and FAA-recommended operating practices.
The featured presentation was delivered by Denise Bryan, Fairfield County Airport Director and District 2 Representative on the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission. Denise shared an informative overview of South Carolina's aviation system, emphasizing the vital role that general aviation airports play in supporting communities throughout the state. She discussed the importance of long-term planning, infrastructure improvements, and continued support for local airports while answering numerous questions from members following her presentation. The chapter sincerely appreciates Denise and her continued advocacy for general aviation.
As always, the meeting reflected the strong sense of community that defines EAA Chapter 1467, combining education, safety, and fellowship in an enjoyable setting. Members are encouraged to join the next chapter meeting on July 19 at Ron Angerman's hangar for another opportunity to connect with fellow aviators, enjoy good food, and participate in another informative afternoon dedicated to the joy of flying.
