EAA Chapter 1467 gathered September 20 at Ron Angerman’s hangar at Gilbert International Airpark for an afternoon of fellowship, aviation stories, and shared learning. President Eddie Brennan thanked Ron for hosting and everyone who contributed to the luncheon. Members welcomed Eric Lewis, a retired UPS pilot from Lexington County who plans to build a single-seat airplane and hopes to connect with fellow builders.
Safety Coordinator Don Schmotzer emphasized careful preflight inspections, with particular attention to tire pressure, brakes, and wheel bearings. He encouraged members to review maintenance records and follow their aircraft manufacturer’s guidance. Eddie also led the monthly VMC and IMC discussions, exploring electrical-system problems in flight and the visual-reference requirements for descending below instrument-approach minimums.
Chapter member Gerhardt Shubert shared an engaging presentation about his 30th visit to Oshkosh. His photographs highlighted aircraft displays, activities, and entertainment, while his account of wildfire smoke and difficult arrival conditions offered a memorable perspective on the challenges of the trip. Members enjoyed asking questions and hearing about his experiences traveling to and from the event.
The chapter also reviewed regional aviation opportunities, including the Triple Tree Aerodrome Fly-In, an FAA Safety Team meeting in Lexington, and the Antique Aircraft Fly-In at Camden’s Woodward Field. Looking ahead, the chapter’s fall fly-in is planned for November 2027, with planning discussions beginning in February. The next chapter gathering is scheduled for October 18 at Ron Angerman’s hangar, featuring a “Fall Foods” luncheon with casseroles, chili, seasonal vegetables, salads, and desserts.
From National Weather Service: A storm cell is forming 20 miles northwest of Oshkosh. There is the potential for 25-30 mph wind gusts & rain. If this cell tracks towards Oshkosh, it could arrive around 4:30 to 4:40 p.m.
