EAA Chapter 1467 members gathered at Gilbert International Airpark on February 15, 2026 for a well-attended and engaging February meeting hosted in Ron Angerman’s hangar. The afternoon began with great fellowship and a crowd-favorite chili luncheon, setting the tone for a productive and meaningful gathering.
Members welcomed a visiting pilot from Whiteplains Airpark who shared firsthand insight regarding the recent aircraft accident in his community. The discussion led into a thoughtful safety conversation led by our Safety Coordinator, emphasizing the critical priorities of “Aviate, Navigate, Communicate,” and reinforcing the importance of understanding aircraft systems and declaring emergencies when needed. Members continued the dialogue during an open discussion about the February 6 accident involving a Cirrus SR22, examining weather conditions, cockpit management, and emergency procedures in an effort to learn and grow safer together.
The chapter also conducted regular business, approved prior meeting minutes, and confirmed continued support of our Ray Scholarship recipient as she progresses in her flight training journey.
Members participated in EAA VMC and IMC Club question discussions, reviewing real-world flying scenarios and FAA regulations that promote sound aeronautical decision-making.
The highlight of the afternoon was an outstanding presentation by Gerhard Schubert, who shared the remarkable story of restoring a Fournier RF-5B Sperber motor glider over three and a half years. His presentation showcased the dedication, craftsmanship, and teamwork required to bring the aircraft back to life, culminating in its successful first flight after completion. It was an inspiring reminder of the passion that defines the experimental aviation community.
The meeting concluded with announcements of upcoming aviation events and the next chapter gathering in March.
