Shenandoah EAA Chapter 1031

Winchester, VA

March 12th 2023 Young Eagles Rally

After many years of not having a Young Eagles Rally our newly elected (volunteer) Young Eagle coordinator Kyle Wallace pulled it off using the tools provided by EAA to make it easier to advertise our event and to have Young Eagles sign up for their free airplane rides. Many thanks to Kyle Wallace for a perfectly organized event.

The only thing Kyle couldn't control was the weather. The event was originally planned for Saturday the 11th, but high winds prevented us from flying the Young Eagles. He was forced to move the event to Sunday the 12th when the weather was much better with a high overcast and calm wind. We are a small EAA Chapter with limited Young Eagle pilots available, so Kyle had capped the sign up at 20 Young Eagles. When he first opened the event for registration the seats were sold out within two days. The power of the internet.

Unfortunately, when you have to reschedule an event there are always dropouts due to prior commitments for the rescheduled date. Only a total of nine Young Eagles confirmed for Sunday's rally and at the end seven took an airplane ride. Kyle Wallace (C-150), Stan Kerns (Mooney M20B) and John Munroe (RV-6) had the fun of providing the airplane rides to the Young Eagles. Mary Ellen Brown Hutchins and David Ames provided the ever so important ground support. Thank you to all of the chapter members involved making this a success.

We hope some more of our members will become volunteer Young Eagle pilots and ground support.
