Shenandoah EAA Chapter 1031

Winchester, VA

2023-10-07 Chapter Picnic

By Juergen Nies

Saturday October the 7th was the day for our annual Chapter picnic at White Post aerodrome. The rain stopped early morning and other than the wind gusting at about 20 knots it was a pleasant day. Unfortunately, it was a direct 90-degree crosswind (coming in right over the trees alongside the runway), so none of our members took the challenge to fly their airplanes in.

We had a total of 15 members (including some family members) plus two potential members attending (we hope next year more of our members can make it). Big thank you to Stan Kerns for donating the burgers, David Ames to do all the shopping, providing the BBQ and doing the grilling, Marus (Zeke) Zechini for mowing the field and Chuck Calvi for helping to set up the table and securing the hangar doors from the wind.

The winner of the 50/50 raffle was John Fontaine. Sometimes it pays to attend our chapter events!

Everyone had fun and enjoyed the food and camaraderie with lots of hangar flying going on. Hope to see many of you at the November meeting (there will be no regular member meeting in October).
