Shenandoah EAA Chapter 1031

Winchester, VA

2023-08-12 Shannon

By Juergen Nies

It was another hot summer day, but what a great turnout for our August flyout to Shannon airport (KEZF). Stan Kerns and Mac MacLaurin (in Stan's Mooney), Tom Parry (Cessna Cardinal), Gary and Mary Ann Schaffer (J-3 Cub), John and Diane Munroe (RV-6), Tom Leone (C-172) and Juergen and Miyuki Nies (Piper Pacer) all flew into Shannon for some lunch and some hangar flying.

The flight at 5,500 feet was actually quite smooth and the temperatures were cool. Although Gary and Mary Ann reported that they never climbed above 1,200 feet AGL The traffic pattern at Shannon was pretty empty until our group arrived. After all the airplanes were parked and secured, we headed to the restaurant at the field. It was really busy since there was a group of people that had visited the museum at the field, and they were also ready for lunch. Nevertheless, we all got our orders placed and were able to make one large table for our group. Of course, with that many people at the restaurant it took a little time to get our food, but we didn't mind since there was plenty to talk about.

Soon lunch was over, and everyone fired up their engines for the flight home. A great flyout with very good attendance. I hope to see more of you at the next flyout.

Fly safe, Tailwind and enjoy the ride,

Juergen
