    1. Facilities – Bob Collins – Report

    2. February Facilities Board Report

      * The four benches from the observation area have been restained and moved out of the kitchen area. I’m not really keen on the stain; doesn’t seem particularly durable but had to get some protection on there. I’ll probably just put them out on the deck until spring and throw a couple of tarps over them. I’ll have to cut some replacement legs for some of them when it gets warmer.

      *   With the benches out of the way, I’ve set up an office in the north end of the kitchen and moved file cabinets around and organized the Young Eagles cabinet. The black file cabinet from the main area that was next to the big desk has been moved to this location.  Shelves will go up at some point for no particular reason.  Late this year I’ll submit a proposal for flooring and painting in this area.

      * Next project is continuing cleaning up the shelf (that’s over the storage area) in the kitchen, make an inventory and create a map of where everything is located so it can quickly be found without having to tear everything that’s up there apart.  I’m throwing everything away that Robyn picked up from the closing of some aviation museum last year. I cringed at the time it was suggested she go take a look because I knew we’d just end up with someone else’s trash. I think some of it was “auctioned” off at the chapter picnic but most of it was just left despite promises to the contrary. Let’s not do that again.

      *  With no electrical power on site, the plan to sand and restain the pergola at the observation area needs to be adjusted. I’ll try to locate a brownish paint and just scrape and paint it instead, hopefully before the first Young Eagles Day. When is the first Young Eagles Day?

I’d really love to find a way to use the chapter house on Young Eagles Days. Any ideas?  Also, what about fundraising ideas during these events?

      * Been trying to think of a way to get people to fly in   during evenings in the summer. I was thinking of movie and root beer float Fridays or something to that effect. This is partly inspired by the Rushford Airport, which is just a house and in the kitchen they keep a supply of ice cream and root beer (and burgers and buns) and people just help themselves and leave a couple of bucks. If we could get enough information out, I wonder if there are enough pilots around MN who’d like to fly into 21D after work on a Friday etc have a root beer float (or hot dog?)  and sit on the deck or watch an aviation movie on the big screen?

      * Anxious to see if the lower temperature on the thermostat makes any difference in heating bills. Only January will tell for sure since there was a lot of activity in the house during December.  The bill that arrived last January was $131. The bill that covered the period of last January was $166 ($21.32 for the electricity)
