President's Column
Hello everyone. This is my first communication as the president of Chapter 1056. I will do my very best to keep everyone informed of upcoming events and chapter news as it happens. As you may or may not know, our previous president Mike Chekal resigned recently in order to concentrate on his new job at GE Aerospace which is located in Grand Rapids, Mi. Please join me in congratulating Mike on his career move and also thank him for the past nine years as he led our chapter.
I will be attending EAA Leadership training at Oshkosh later this month and learning about all the programs that EAA has to offer for our chapter going forward. I am also looking forward to expanding our membership and enhancing our club activities for the future. I appreciate the help I have received so far from others especially our board members. See you at the next chapter meeting on November 7th.

Chapter meeting October 3rd 2024
Hanger clean-up day.
Saturday October 5thhas been designated as hanger clean out day. The goal is to convert our storage hanger into a transitional rental hanger for rental customers who are waiting to get into their unit. It also may be used for chapter members who need a temporary storage option.
We are also going to do some repairs to the remaining hangers as required
As of today, October 4th, we have two rental hangers available. The rate is $205.00 a month.
We are typically full to capacity as our “word of mouth” marketing method seems to be working.
Christmas Party
This year’s Christmas dinner party will be at Lakeland CC as usual. The date is December 13th.
Chapter members will pay $25.00 for themselves and one guest. Additional Guest will be $25.00 each. We are collecting Toys for Tots this year. So please bring a new toy to the dinner party.

This Month’s presentations
Mike Chekal has started a new job with GE Aerospace in Grand Rapids
He showed us video over view of what they do along with a short history of the company.
Historically they were the first company to develop the Turbo-Supercharger for piston engines in 1917
They also were the developers of one of the first Jet engines in the US. The engine that was used in the military XP-59A experimental aircraft
Their primary customers are commercial and military applications
Mike will be a supervisor of software developers working on new Boeing 777 and 787 commercial aircraft.
Since he will be working out of Grand Rapids, he is looking to move somewhere around the Caledonia area.
Steve Aupperle showed safety related video about how best to enter the pattern for safe transition to downwind. There was a lot of discussion between members about different approaches to safety.
