Through the generous support of the Ray Foundation, EAA provides up to $11,000 to deserving youths for their flight training expenses, totaling nearly $1,800,000 in scholarships annually.
Each year, our chapter submits an application to have the honor of submitting a local candidate for the Ray Scholarship. If selected Chapter EAA will contact youth the chapter is aware of already studying aviation on their own time, and "Dime". The EAA 878 Scholarship committee will select one of these candidates to submit to the National EAA for consideration for one of the Ray Scholarships offered that year. A candidate will need to be between the ages of 16 and 19,
The money will be used to help with the costs associated with achieving a private pilot license.
EAA 878 will supply a Ray Scholarship Coordinator who will be the main contact for the applicant to interact with the chapter. Other chapter members will be available for mentoring and helping with the skills and knowledge required to achieve the Private Pilot License (PPL).
A well qualified candidate will be ready to start flight training immediately, or preferably already in flight training. Already studying for the PPL written exam, the Sporty's course is recommended by many flight instructors, and have some association with Chapter 878 or either the Maple Lake, or Buffalo airport.
