EAA Chapter 878 has an active "Build and Fly Project"
for building remote controlled airplanes as part of EAA's
Young Eagles program.

Program Dates & Schedule

Build Days:   July 21, 23, 28, and 30 (Tuesdays & Thursdays)

Flying Days:  August 4 and 6

Time: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Location:  All build sessions will take place at the Maple Lake Airport in the EAA Chapter 878 hangar classroom.

Program Overview:  This hands-on aviation program is designed for high school students who want to learn how to build and fly their own foam-board RC airplane. Each student will construct an aircraft they get to keep at the end of the program.  
The cost is $100 per student, and we have only 8 spots available.
EAA Chapter 878 (Maple Lake) will cover the remaining cost of the completed RC airplane kit.

1. FT Tiny Twig Laser-Cut Foam Board RC Airplane Kit
     o Includes landing gear and wheels
     o Approx. 30-inch wingspan

     o 30A ESC
     o 2212 2200KV brushless motor
     o Four 9-gram servos

September 9, 2025, Build and Fly presentation at EAA meeting.

Build and Fly a Remote Controlled Airplane!  Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1-5 PM.
July 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, 31:  Build and flight simulator training, Maple Lake EAA 878 Hangar.
August 5, 7:  Flying days, Wright Flyers Field, Montissippi Park, Monticello.  
Here is a picture of the plane that will be built by each participant--it is a foam board airplane kit that is all electric.

2023:  

REMOTE CONTROL AIRPLANE:  On October 12, 2023, the EAA Chapter 878
Young Eagles "Build and Fly RC Airplane" Build portion was completed, coordinated
by Tom Rammel, and the model eKADET is ready to fly. 
The final build video with the boys and the eKADET airplane,
