In addition to the EAA sponsored Ray Aviation Scholarship and the Buko Scholarship, the chapter also has access other scholarships which provides up to $11,000 for primary flight training. Application widows will be opened accordingly throughout the year.
This scholarship is available for candidates 16-19 years old who are pursuing a Private Pilot or Sport Pilot certificate. Submission date of the application is taken into consideration so be sure to get yours in as soon as possible.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Age 16-19 for powered flight training
- Possession of FAA 3rd class medical certificate (private pilot students)
- Be able to begin their flight training within 30 days of receiving the award
- Passed the FAA written test
- Be in good standings as a Chapter 1 volunteer – must volunteer 4 hours per month
- Possession of a student pilot certificate (once applicant is selected, our Scholarship Coordinator will assist with this process)
- Applicant must live within a commutable distance from the zip code 92509
**You may still apply without obtaining your medical and written test BUT both are REQUIRED before a Scholarship is formally offered**
Additional consideration will be given to candidates who are former Young Eagles, EAA student members, and actively participating in the EAA Flight Plan, specifically the Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course.
An in-person interview with the candidate and their parents is required should the candidate progress past the initial review of our application process.
Once accepted, the candidate will be required to:
- Submit regular progress reports
- Check in with our Scholarship Coordinator after every flight or a minimum of one check in per week
- Be in good standings as a Chapter 1 volunteer – must volunteer 4 hours per month
- Attend Chapter approved activities and other events as requested
- Possession of a student pilot certificate (once applicant is selected, our Scholarship Coordinator will assist with this process)
- Reach designated flight training milestones in the timeframe designated by the Chapter Board
- Candidate must live within a commutable distance from the zip code 92509 for the full 1 year commitment.
