2026 Meeting Minutes

EAA Chapter 87 Meeting Minutes - May 12, 2026

The May meeting was held at Brunswick Executive Airport.  President Leo LeClair called the meeting to order at 1905.

The treasurer's report was presented and accepted.

OLD BUSINESS

Members discussed the events to be held on Saturday, May 16th.  Andy has gotten the big screen TV from Beemer for his presentation.
Leo has promoted the event on Facebook.  The chapter will provide donuts for attendees.
Beemer will host a hangar warming BBQ from Noon to 2:00 - burgers, soft drinks, and beer.

Young Eagles

The group discussed next month's Young Eagles event, June 13 & 14 at KLEW.  Ideas for promotion included generic Young Eagles signage, a flag banner, and a sandwich sign.  Concern was expressed that overly-effective promotion might bring in more kids than we are able to fly.  A call will go out for additional pilots with EAA background checks.

Ground crew will focus on staying ahead of paperwork and traffic flow.  No kids or parents will be allowed on the flight line without an escort.

The April meeting was held at Brunswick Executive Airport.  President Leo LeClair called the meeting to order at 1915.

The treasurer reported that we maintain a total of 31 members on the roster.
Bank balances are: 
Checking: $973.86
Savings: $119.43
CD: $4,057.78  (rolls over on May 4th)

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Russ reported that the Young Eagles forms from Father's Day event are complete.

Andy discussed the event to be held on May 16th:

  • He paid a $25 fee to KIWI for use of the space
  • David Beemer offered use of a big screen TV for the presentation
  • Promotion is ongoing - on Facebook (Leo), MAA event calendar (Lisa), emails to other EAA chapters (Andy).

NEW & OTHER BUSINESS

Trivia - what President's son died in aerial combat while their father was in office?  Quentin Roosevelt, Teddy's youngest son and a pilot in World War I, was killed in aerial combat over France

There was continuing discussion on installing #2 mil spec ground wire.  Andy says that the starter spins faster after replacement.

Members also discussed adel clamps.

The club discussed EAA Young Eagles credits.  We received credits for the flights in October (paper records), but not the flights on Father's Day (electronic records).

NEW & OTHER BUSINESS

The club welcomed Mark Kaufman from Harpswell.  He is currently building a Wagabond.   https://eaabuilderslog.org?s=mkaufman  

 

There was discussion about the trivia question and the origin of the expression "balls to the wall".   There was also discussion about wing-nutted clecos.

The February meeting was cancelled due to weather.


 

EAA Chapter 87 Meeting Minutes - January 13, 2026


The January meeting was held at Brunswick Executive Airport.  President Leo Leclair called the meeting to order at 1910.

The Treasurer reported account balances totaling $4906.83.  Accepted.

Membership: We currently have 30 members.  

OLD BUSINESS

The club had previously agreed to sponsor Andrew Constantine's attendance at an EAA Leadership Seminar in Oshkosh.  Andrew anticipates attending in October of 2026.

Members have had difficulty locating the EAA web page for the background checks required for working at Young Eagles (YE) events.  The chapter webmaster will be asked to add the link to the YE page.

There was discussion of purchasing an "easy up" canopy for YE events.  The group decided to continue borrowing canopies.

NEW & OTHER BUSINESS

The Great State of Maine Airshow will return to Brunswick on July 11-12, 2026.  Volunteer opportunities are expected.

There was a discussion of the EAA Chapter Recognition Program, designed to reward outstanding chapters. Incentives include AirVenture tickets.

Members discussed having activities available for those waiting for YE flights.

Proposed schedule for 2026: 

  • May 12   Bar-B-Q at David Beemer's hangar at KIWI 5:30 ish with food at 6:00pm
  • June 13   Young Eagles rally at KLEW with a rain date of June 14th.
  • August 11   General Membership meeting to be held at Flight Deck Brewery. Time TBD
  • September 8   Annual Chapter B-B-Q at Russ's hangar at KLEW Gate access 5:00 to 5:30. Food around 6:00pm
  • October 3   Young Eagles rally at KIWI with a rain date of Oct 4th.
  • Coffee and Donuts   tba
