Project Overview & Construction Scope
Designed and refined by our very own Glenn Gordon 🔗, the Timber Tiger ST-L is a 95%-scale replica of the Ryan ST-A, combining vintage aircraft styling with modern design and manufacturing techniques. For EAA Chapter 1726, the project provides an opportunity for members to participate in real aircraft construction and explore the practical challenges of building an experimental aircraft.
Depending on the current stage of construction, member participation spans a wide range of hands-on skills:
- Sheet-metal fabrication, fitting, drilling, and assembly
- Riveting and hardware installation
- Component preparation, corrosion protection, and finishing
- Wing and fuselage structural assembly
- Landing gear and control-system work (including push-pull tubes)
- Fabric covering of airframe components
- Electrical wiring and lighting installation
The intent is not simply to observe an aircraft being built, but to create opportunities for members to work together, share techniques, and develop practical construction skills combining modern CAD, digital fabrication, and traditional aircraft-building methods.
