TIMETABLE / DEADLINES -
The 2025 deadlines are:
Scholarship opens for applications JANUARY
PHASE 1 APPLICATION DUE: FRIDAY, JAN 31, 2025
Decision announced on Phase 1: SUNDAY FEB 9
PHASE 2 APPLICATION DUE: SATURDAY, FEB 15 (only for Phase 1 Finalists)
Decision announced on Phase 2: FRIDAY, FEB 28
For the winner (or winners), there will be addition steps required, including:
a) formalize the process by applying to the camp (we'll have already sent EAA the winner(s) name(s) for our reserved slots)
b) a requirement by EAA Chapter 106's scholarship for the winner's family to apply by March 9th for an EAA "CAMPERSHIP" (to possibly reduce the camp cost so that our chapter can save some scholarship funds to send more youth next year)
c) camp required paperwork (medical form, etc)
* = Why, you might ask, do we require the primary (Phase 1) application at the end of January for a camp at the end of July?
1) The EAA Air Academy requires all campers to be identified by the end of February since they have several camps to arrange for June and July. Prior to the camps, there is paperwork to review (camp medical, applications, "camperships", flights info, and more) and logistics to arrange (sleeping arrangements at the lodge, meals, airport pickups, etc). Most of the people involved in these steps need March thru May to finalize everything before they get really busy with running the camps and preparing and running the AirVenture.org event.
2) So for our chapter to be ready by the end of February, our youth scholarship selection committee needs time to score all the Phase 1 applications. Then we give the finalists almost a week to complete the Phase 2 application (such as a couple more, but small, essays) and our selection committee needs one week to review and score those to pick the winners, then notify EAA - all by the end of February.
