EAA106 Youth Scholarship - Application

EAA106 YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP - REQUIREMENTS of the WINNER(s)

For the winner (or winners), there will be addition steps required after being announced as a winner, including:

NOTE:  The first two items in the below list have a deadline of:
                                    SUNDAY, MARCH 8

If the first two requirements are not completed by March 8, our scholarship becomes null and void.

1) A winner and their family must submit a camp application to EAA by March 8
We will send our winner(s) the camp application link.
While EAA will have the names of our winners, they still require that every camper complete an application.
    NOTE:
Some of the questions in the EAA106 Scholarship application will be the same as EAA will have in their camp application, so save a copy of your answers to our chapter scholarship application.

2) A winner and their family must submit an "EAA CAMPERSHIP" application by March 8.
We will send our winner(s) the "Campership" application link.
An EAA "Campership" is a partial camp fee reduction scholarship. The amount of the "campership" may range from $0 to $1,000 in a camp fee reduction out of the $1,650 cost.  A "Campership" (if any) reduces the camp cost paid by EAA Chapter 106 so we can send even more youth the next year.
EAA "Camperships" are awarded to campers based on those who show the greatest potential to be actively engaged in aviation.

3)
A winner and their family must submit the following required camp forms by the date EAA says in their acceptance letter:
    --- Conduct Expectation Form
    --- Liability Form
    --- both Medical Forms, and

EAA Chapter 106 will provide the flight information (following a coordination with the family before EAA106 books the flight) for the winner/family to fill out this required form:
    --- Travel Form
NOTE:  Both participant and parent signatures may be required on some of the forms.
The following form will be unnecessary as EAA Chapter will be paying for the camp, provided that the winner and family submitted the required (by our scholarship) "EAA Campership" form (see item 2 above).
--- Air Academy Payment Authorization Form

4)
A winner should be or become an EAA Young Eagle (up to age 17) -- prior to the camp.
Even though our winner(s) is/are already taking flight training, this program not only provides a free flight experience (perhaps in a different make/model aircraft than your flight lessons), but a range of additional benefits, including, but not limited to:

-- FREE Youth membership with EAA
-- FREE Youth membership with EAA Chapter 106 (aka EAA106)
Once you have your EAA#, sign up at:  https://chapters.eaa.org/eaa106/join-renew-donate
-- FREE Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course ($299 value).
Even if you have completed your ground school, this is a great resource to help prepare for your written exam if you have not yet taken that.
-- FREE voucher for $160 towards a flight lesson. After completing the first three volumes of the Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course, you’ll qualify for that voucher towards a flight lesson at a flight school of your choice ($160 value).
-- FREE ... EAA will reimburse you when you pass your FAA written exam ($175 value)
-- FREE ... Enroll in AeroEducate. This program is designed for students K-12, no matter where you are on your journey. Have fun with aviation-based activities that you can do at home or get hands-on with aviation at your local airport!

For all the benefits of being an EAA Young Eagle, go to this page:
    https://www.eaa.org/eaa/youth/free-ye-flights/eaa-young-eagles-flight-plan
If you have not yet flown as an EAA Young Eagle, to find a flight (during the warmer months), go to:
    https://events.eaachapters.org/
Note: Young Eagle (YE) rally events may not be scheduled until warmer weather. If none scheduled, contact us at EAA106.YoungEagles (at gmail.com) and we'll see if we can find a Young Eagle pilot nearby for our winner(s) for a YE flight outside of the bigger YE rally events.

5) A winner should participate in a VMC Club to help their education in becoming a rated pilot (and after as a rated pilot).
This is a monthly 5-minute "there I was" scenario video, then an open discussion by all (for about 25 minutes) to answer:
"What would YOU do?"   VMC Clubs can either be in-person (run by an EAA chapter near you) or online such as EAA Chapter 106's is on a Wednesday night late in the month via zoom. EAA106 VCM Club information will be sent to EAA106 members (see 2nd item under #4 above) as well as via our EAA106 calendar at https://chapters.eaa.org/eaa106/calendar and our MeetUp site (free to join): https://www.meetup.com/home/

6) A winner is   exepected to attend an EAA Chapter 106 meeting after the camp to share your camp experience with our members.
We would love for you to come to more than one meeting before or after the camp, but we expect you to come to at least one meeting after the camp because the money for your flights, bag fee and camp experience came from our members' direct donations for this scholarship, not dues.
