Chapter 63

Winnipeg, MB. - Lyncrest Airport - CJL5

  • C-GVOS
Tom Stoyka's Zenith CH-200 that was built in 1979. It had been based at Lyncrest for many years before I purchased it in 2001 and move it to my home strip (CCC3). These aircraft are built with 6061 aluminum which makes them generally corrosion free. Flight controls are very effective even at low speeds which can lead to over controlling for first time flyers. In 2014, the Lycoming O-320 E3D was completely overhauled. The 150 HP low compression pistons were retained however due to some concern at the time about future availability of higher octane fuels. At this time a light weight starter was added to enhance the starting capability and slightly improve the forward C of G. Unlike my Ercoupe, the sliding canopy cannot be opened in flight but the visibility in all directions (except straight down) is second to none. At 2450 RPM, cruise speed is 130 MPH with a fuel flow of about 7.5 US gallons per hour.
