If you fly with a frequent "right seater", you might consider Pinch Hitter training which will go a long way to familiarizing your right seater with what to do in an emergency. Pinch Hitter training, put together by the Airplane Owners and Pilots Association, is a combination of self-paced online "ground school" and a couple of hours of air work with a Certified Flight Instructor of your choice.
Chapter 35 strongly advocates continued training for all our pilots, and we especially support the idea of formal training for frequent right seaters. To that end, the Chapter has created a grant scholarship program to encourage members to have their frequent right seater complete the AOPA's Pinch Hitter training. Any Chapter member may apply for the grant, which will reimburse the member for up to $500 spent on frequent right seater Pinch Hitter training. The Chapter has committed to approving up to four grants per year.
EAA Chapter 35 members who wish to apply for the Pinch Hitter grant should complete the grant application and email it to president@eaa35.org.
