EAA Chapter 1116 is expanding its aviation safety education for the coming season. We are developing presentations and pilot proficiency activities and plan to seek FAA WINGS credit for selected programs. Dates, topics, official credit information, and registration links will be posted here after each program is listed on FAASafety.gov.
Local FAASTeam Representatives
Chapter 1116 President Frank Brabec and active chapter member Bill Williams serve as FAASTeam Representatives in the Coachella Valley. FAASTeam Representatives are volunteers who promote aviation safety, assist with safety education and outreach, and work under the guidance of a local FAASTeam Program Manager. They are volunteer safety representatives, not FAA regulatory officials.
What is the WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program?
The FAA WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program encourages pilots, including student pilots, to continue building their aviation knowledge, risk management skills, and flying proficiency. Participants complete knowledge and flight activities that apply to their experience and the aircraft category and class in which they train.
Completing a phase of WINGS satisfies the FAA flight review requirement under 14 CFR 61.56(e). The program encourages meaningful recurrent learning and proficiency throughout the year.
Topics we are developing
Possible programs include Palm Springs airspace and local procedures, pilot and controller communication, seasonal and desert operations, practical instrument flying, risk management, maintenance awareness, avionics, and human factors. Topics remain subject to presenter availability and FAASTeam review.
Upcoming safety programs
Our first programs for the season are being developed now. We will add each event here when its date, location, registration instructions, and WINGS credit applicability are confirmed on FAASafety.gov.
Important: WINGS credit is available only when it is stated in the official FAASafety.gov event listing and the participant completes the requirements shown for that activity.
How to participate and receive credit
- Create or update your free account at FAASafety.gov.
- Open the official event listing and follow its registration instructions.
- Use the same email address associated with your FAASafety.gov account when registering or signing the attendance record.
- Complete the attendance, knowledge, or proficiency requirements stated in the official listing.
- Check your My WINGS page after the activity has been completed and processed.
