The Richardson Aviation Scholarship is a locally administered EAA Chapter 1116 program that helps motivated local aviators pursue pilot training. It is a separate chapter scholarship—not the EAA Ray Aviation Scholarship—and applications are handled directly by Chapter 1116.
The program is designed to combine financial assistance with a realistic training plan, mentoring, regular progress check-ins, and active participation in the chapter. Applicants should be prepared to explain their aviation goal, current training status, schedule and transportation plan, FAA eligibility or medical pathway, estimated training costs, funding plan, safety mindset, persistence, and how they hope to contribute to the chapter and aviation community.
How selection works
Applications are reviewed using the approved terms for each award cycle. The chapter considers training readiness, financial need, likelihood of completion, schedule and logistical feasibility, motivation and follow-through, safety and coachability, and chapter or community contribution. An evaluating flight instructor may be asked to review the proposed training plan.
If selected
A selected scholar works with the chapter and training provider to establish a written award plan. That plan defines approved expenses, payment arrangements, training milestones, reporting and check-in expectations, chapter participation, and the conditions for continued funding.
