Chapter 648

Longmont, Colorado

Welcome to Chapter 648

President's Corner

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Here we go. We have an exciting year ahead of us.  Our gathering this month will be at my hangar, Building 15, unit 44. (Link below).  Meet and greet at 9:45, and the program will start promptly at 10:00. Following the meeting, we’ll burn some burgers.

This year, our programs are going to be focused on safety. Safety entails building skills, building materials and the building process, along with aircraft inspection and maintenance. Safety is affected by our flight planning, flying skills, and weather. We also have to consider our mental and physical health before any flight. Make safety your top priority and watch out for your buddy too.

As part of our Chapter’s yearlong focus on Safety, this month we are excited to feature Dan Berry of the EAA Homebuilt Aircraft Council (HAC) for a special preview of his upcoming EAA Homebuilders Week webinar presentation:

Staying Alive: Analysis of Homebuilt Fatal Accidents

Dan will share the HAC analysis and insights from more than 13 years of fatal accident data in experimental amateur built aircraft, highlighting common causal factors and the training, a few case studies, categories of aircraft, habits, and technologies that can help reduce risk. FAA WINGS credit is available when attending the full webinar during EAA Homebuilders Week on January 30 at 11:30 CDT.

Thanks to several generous donors, and a dedicated scholarship committee, the chapter will be granting some aviation focused scholarships soon and sending some young people to camp in Oshkosh this summer.
