President's CornerTis a privilege to live in Colorado. Fall has arrived. Cooler days, fresh snow on the mountains, and the changing color of the trees. The flying is awesome right now. Jump in the airplane, go check out the sights and realize how lucky we are to live here. This Saturday, October 11, Our Technical Counselor, Dan Berry, will give us an introductory brief about EAA’s Homebuilt Aircraft Council and his council appointment. Then it is time to set some Rivets! Dan will give us a short, hands on, Riveting workshop leading us through the experience and application of Newton’s 17th Century Third Law, “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction”, and set some rivets. Starting with Riveting Workmanship followed by Hands On riveting setting two sizes of solid rivets with both Flat and Universal heads. You will also have a chance to set some Blind rivets used on the Ran’s Aircraft, some Van’s Aircraft models and other kit manufactures. First time riveters will take away information about the tools, tooling set-up, workmanship standards information and the errors and the thrill of pounding rivets. Bring your curiosity, eye and ear protection, and your torque wrench, because , Kevin Bennett will be demonstrating how to check and calibrate a torque wrench. He will have one to demonstrate with, but you can bring yours to check and calibrate if you’d like. Our gathering will held at my hangar, Building 15, unit 44. We will begin with meet & greet at 9:45, and the program starting promptly at 10:00. The weather looks good, so we’ll burn some burgers for lunch.
