Young Eagle Flights

Founded in 1992, the Young Eagles program is dedicated to giving youth ages 8–17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.

It’s the only program of its kind, with the sole mission to introduce and inspire kids in the world of aviation.

Today, the Young Eagles program has flown over 2 million kids.

While we won't be having more large Young Eagle flight events for the remaining of 2025 that doesn't mean we stop flying! We still want to make sure children can experience the magic of flight! Today's kid can become tomorrow's airline captain! Our members donate their time, airplane and skills to fly anyone ages 8-17 years of age!

• Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 - 80 youth flown
• Sunday, June 22, 2025 - weather cancellation
• Saturday, August 9th, 2025 - weather cancellation
• Thursday, August 14th, 2025 - 32 youth flown
• Sunday, November 16th, 2025 - 12 youth flown (private event)
• You choose the date! Please email us: chaptereaa509@gmail.com and we will coordinate the pilot, airplane, time and location! (Youth must be ages 8-17)

What happens during a Young Eagle Flight?

1. Meet the Pilot
   The pilots who participate in the Young Eagles program are local members of EAA who are volunteering their time and aircraft to make your flight possible. Each Young Eagles pilot is certificated with the Federal Aviation Administration or Transport Canada. Flights are conducted according to federal regulations, and no aerobatic maneuvers will be performed. A pilot's complete youth protection training and vetted via a background check.
2. What will the pre-flight be like?
   The pilot will explain what your child will see and do. This may include explaining how airplanes work, looking at an aeronautical chart (or map), and describing the interior of the airplane, including the instrument panel. Then comes the fun part: time to go flying!
3. Safety Reminders
   Safety is always a top priority when it comes to aviation. Listen and follow instructions given by that pilot, stay away from the propellers, and stay with the pilot or ground crew at all times. Do not enter the ramp area unescorted.
4. What will the flight be like? Young Eagles will spend about 15 to 20 minutes in the air and experience the awesome feeling of flight that many people only dream about. Many people remember this experience for the rest of their lives!
