Where Curiosity Can Lead

From 4-H Aviation to the Navy Nuclear Power Program

Alijah Christensen  |  Mesquite, Nevada

Aviation was part of Alijah Christensen’s 4-H experience but it became part of something larger.

The Virgin Valley High School graduate combined strong academics, hands-on learning, and the confidence to pursue an ambitious next step: acceptance into the U.S. Navy’s highly selective Nuclear Power Program.

Alijah’s story is a reminder that aviation education can build more than pilots. It can encourage technical thinking, teamwork, confidence, and the willingness to pursue opportunities that once may have seemed out of reach.

Exploring Aviation Through Simulation

Through University of Nevada, Reno Extension and Nevada 4-H, students have access to Redbird TD2 flight simulators that help introduce cockpit familiarization, basic aircraft maneuverability, modern G1000 glass cockpit concepts, and aviation decision-making in a structured educational environment.

These simulators provide high school students another pathway to explore aviation, build confidence, and experience how aircraft respond in a safe, guided learning setting using the Redbird GIFT training system.
