Can anyone attend?
Yes. You do not need to be a pilot or have a child participating in Young Eagles.
What can we see, explore and experience at the Airport Open House?
There’s plenty to discover throughout Perkins Field. Get an up-close look at aircraft, meet pilots and aviation organizations, experience live aviation activity, and take part in hands-on challenges, demonstrations and the I Spy Adventure. Whether you come to fly, explore, learn or simply enjoy the airplanes, there’s something happening on the ground as well as in the air.
Who can fly with Young Eagles?
Young Eagles flights are for youth ages 8-17. Parent or legal guardian approval and signature are required.
When does Young Eagles registration open?
As of September 21, 2026 registration has shifted to a waitlist. Pre-registration on the waitlist is strongly recommended.
Can we just walk in for a Young Eagles flight?
Yes. However, pre-registered Young Eagles will be given priority. Walk-in flight availability depends on open time slots, participating pilots, aircraft, and available seats on the day of the event.
When should we arrive for a Young Eagles flight?
Plan to arrive at the registration desk in hangar 10 about 10–15 minutes before your registered time so there is time to check in and complete any required paperwork before the flight.
Who are the Young Eagle pilots?
Young Eagles pilots are volunteer EAA members who donate their time, aircraft, and fuel. Participating pilots must meet EAA and FAA requirements for Young Eagles flights, including required pilot qualifications, currency, Youth Protection Program training, and background screening. Does a parent or legal guardian have to be there?
Yes. A parent or legal guardian must attend and sign the required registration and permission form for the Young Eagles flight. The parent or guardian should remain at the airport while the youth is participating.
What happens during a Young Eagles flight?
Before takeoff, the pilot will introduce the young person to the airplane and explain the flight. Flights are typically about 15–20 minutes, depending on local conditions. During the flight, the pilot may point out landmarks and explain how the airplane and its instruments work. At the pilot’s discretion, a Young Eagle may also have an opportunity to take the controls under close supervision.
What should my child wear or bring?
Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for walking around aircraft are recommended. Sunscreen and water are also a good idea. If your child already has a Young Eagles logbook from a previous flight, bring it along.
