Greetings to the EAA 898 Members!
Goodbye to Winter and welcome to the warmer weather!
Welcome back to all our members that wintered in warmer climates while your compatriots braved the Northeast cold.
Our BBQs are off to a great start. May’s meeting saw almost 50 people attending. Bob Palamara was once again behind the grill cooking up the hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage and even pork roast!
The Builds are in full swing now that its over 50 degrees in our hanger. The Thatcher will hopefully be finished soon, allowing us to turn our full attention to the RV-10. And waiting in the wings is the RV-14. Also, Bob Newman promises more wind vane projects in the near future.
We had our first Young Eagle event on May 11th. Unfortunately, the event was moved from its original May 10th date due to weather; some of the original Young Eagle attendees couldn’t make it. Still, we flew 51 children; not bad! Thank you to the Joe Green, Jonathan Griffith, Wayne Romberg, John Michael Ayers and Leslie Cruz for their time and aircraft to fly the kids. There were a lot of smiling faces! And thank you to Debbie Hamilton and her talented ground crew that kept everything and everyone moving so smoothly during the morning. A lot of work, but well worth it!
The Summer promises to be very busy. Power of the Pines, Joint Base MDL’s open house, will be held in May; June will see another Young Eagles event and a Rusty Pilots seminar. Oshkosh will once again host its Air Show and event in July. In August we will host a BBQ for IAC Chapter 52 prior to their aerobatic competition. And Lenny has said he’s going to try to fit in another tour of the WWII aircraft housed here at MJX.
Please continue to continue to support your Board of Directors with program ideas and things you would like to do.
Stay cool and fly safe!
Thank you
Jeff Hamilton, President
