Young Eagles Events Scheduled for 2025
We are being ambitious this year hosting three Young Eagles events at three different airports!
- Sat., May 10 Burke Lakefront Airport Private Event
- Sat., June 7 Medina Municipal Airport Public Event
- Sat. August 23 Wayne County Airport Public Event
The May event is over, (thank you, North Coast Tuskegee Airmen! It was a great event!), and June is, too, (thank you, Medina Municipal Airport!) How did we get so lucky as to have beautiful weather days for each event?
If you missed those two events, mark your calendar for August. The registration link is open at https://www.eaachapters.org/. In addition, you can enter your zip code at the same site to see other Young Eagles events around the area. And if those options don't work, email us at eaachapter846@gmail.com and we will try to arrange something with one of our experienced pilots at a time that will work for you.
A few things to know:
- We are all volunteers - Pilots and ground personnel are all volunteers, giving their time, their equipment and their fuel to introduce your young people to aviation. Be kind, be patient.
- Scheduling - YEs are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis to fly with a pilot in 2 or 4 seat aircraft. Only a few children can go at a time and that takes time. Chances are you will have to wait for your flight. Bring activities or snacks for young children that might be coming with you.
- Aircraft Seating - Seating arrangements are not guaranteed regardless of age or past Young Eagles experience and are at the discretion of your pilot.
- Weather - Fingers crossed, it will be beautiful weather, and everyone gets to fly, but if it's not, be watching our Facebook page for updates.
- Safety - Our guests are restricted to the airport hangar unless escorted by a chapter volunteer in an orange vest. The ramp staging area will be a high traffic area, and all individuals must be escorted.
- Pilots - All our pilots are certificated by the FAA and all aircraft are likewise licensed by the government. Additionally, each pilot is required to complete EAA’s Youth Protection Training and background check program. The flights are conducted according to federal regulations. No aerobatic maneuvers are performed.

Another Successful Young Eagles Day!
The Chapter held a Young Eagles Day Saturday, June 1, at Medina Airport. It was an unqualified success with 63 Young Eagles being flown by eight Chapter pilots. The weather was perfect with light winds favoring runway 19, which allowed a great view for everyone to watch the takeoffs and landings. More photos can be found on our Google Photos page, Young Eagles 2024 Album.
The pilots and their totals:
- Karl Aber 6 flights 12 Young Eagles
- Logan Cohara 4 flights 8 Young Eagles
- David Gerdeman 4 flights 10 Young Eagles
- Paul Hancheck 6 flights 7 Young Eagles
- Steve Lehuta 5 flights 10 Young Eagles
- Bryon Palitto 3 flights 7 Young Eagles
- Josh Tomsheck 2 flights 3 Young Eagles
- Matt Tomsheck 3 flights 6 Young Eagles
Greg Cantrell and Steve Greer did a great job getting all of the kids registered. Sherry Tytko took on the task of assigning kids to pilots, as well as ensuring that the logbooks and flight certificates were matched up for the plane captains. The plane captains, who escorted kids and parents to and from the aircraft, were Mary Baker, Kevin Fink, Rachel Fink, Mike Guenthner, Dale Holmes, Ron Lutz, Scott Taggart, Tom Troxel, and Amy Tytko. Chapter guest volunteers Noah Consolati and Pete Kramarczuk assisted as plane captains. Doug Tytko was the chapter photographer for the day recording the events and the big smiles on everyone’s faces. Colm Burke and Paulie Hancheck worked with Ken Guthrie and Adam Hile and the RC flight simulators allowing kids to practice flying an aircraft. Brian Burke did an excellent job in getting all of the kids through ground school. Randy Brooks, Jerry Mraz and Dave Manning acted as Ground Boss keeping all of the aircraft going into and out of designated parking spots on the ramp. Members Mike Baker and Glenn Krafcik also attended the event. After set-up, Gary Baker answered questions and tried to stay out of everyone’s way. Set-up and tear-down was done by Gary Baker, Randy Brooks, Walt Halloran, Dale Holmes, Gary Kohler, Dave Manning, Brad Wurst and Chris and Quinn Oehlers. A very big thanks goes to Dave Manning for allowing the chapter to use his canopy or folks to situnder during the day’s activities. If we forgot someone please accept our apologies.
This day’s event brings our chapter total of Young Eagles flown to more than 3,650 kids! Thank you to all the volunteers who made our first Young Eagles event in 2024 a success! The Chapter will host Young Eagles Day #2 on Saturday, August 17, at Wayne County Airport (KBJJ). Please make a note in your calendar. Online registration is available for parents: https://youngeaglesday.org/?10457
Young Eagles Days 2023
Many thanks to all our partners who made the days a success: Wayne County Airport, Wayne County RC Club, Metro Life Flight, Experimental Aircraft Association, all our pilots who donated their time, their aircraft and their gas, and all our ground volunteers who donated their time, energy and aching feet to introduce young people to the joy of flight.
Young Eagles Day, "Take 2"
We had so much demand, that we scheduled a second Young Eagles Day for those who weren't able to fly in June. All the time slots for that day are also filled. If you are signed up, check here or our Facebook page if you have any weather concerns. We look forward to seeing you at the Wayne County Airport, Aug. 27th!
