Ford Tri-Motor: August 2023
We had beautiful weather during the Ford Tri-Motor tour stop August 17-20th.
34 chapter members came out to the Wayne County Airport, and volunteered more than 447 hours over the four days! Thank you to all who came out to volunteer, as well as those who volunteered to help load up supplies prior to the event, and those who helped to unload the supplies back at the chapter hangar after the event.
Between Mary Baker reaching out to her media contacts, and Greg Cantrell’s TV interview and presentation to the local Kawanis organization, we attracted 508 paying passengers and flew 58 flights.
Greg Cantrell did a wonderful job of obtaining our gold and silver level sponsors: Gold Level: Mike Pallotta Ford; Silver Sponsor: Seaman Corp, as well as the Wayne County Commissioners and Wayne County Airport for the use of the hangar and ramp space. Chapter member and State Farm Insurance representative, Steve Greer, was also a tour stop sponsor. Thank you to all our sponsors.
Friday evening, chapter volunteers along with the EAA tour staff went to dinner at TJ’s in Wooster. It was an evening filled with good food, stories from Bernie Ockuly, and a lot of laughs.
Congratulations to Arlene Maksymicz for her winning bid on the Ford Tri-Motor shadow box. Greg Cantrell did a beautiful job of creating the shadow box. Arlene also renewed her chapter membership during the tour stop. Note: Arlene is now famous! She was featured in a wonderful story by Emma Hornung from EAA, "Do you believe in love at first sight? Or, perhaps more fitting, love at first flight? Arlene Maksymicz of EAA Chapter 846 sure does! The love affair started when the Liberty Ford Tri- Motor made a stop at the Wayne County Airport (KBJJ) in Ohio in September 2019. Since that day, Arlene has now sat right seat in the Tri-Motor numerous times (and awaits her next opportunity)." The full article can be found here.
Excluding merchandise sales, which we are still awaiting the final numbers on, the event will bring in a total profit of about $4,262.
Finally, thank you to the members of the Ford Tri-Motor Tour Stop Committee, consisting of: Brian Burke, Tour Stop Chairperson, Mary Baker and Greg Cantrell, Marketing Co-Chair; Greg Cantrell, Sponsorship Coordinator; and committee members Gary Baker and Chris Oehlers.

Young Eagles Day, 2022
Founded in 1992, the Young Eagles program has dedicated more than 25 years to giving youth ages 8–17 their first free ride in an airplane. It’s the only program of its kind, with the sole mission to introduce and inspire kids in the world of aviation.
The chapter will be holding a Young Eagles Day event on June 11, International Young Eagles Day. Nationally, the Young Eagles program has flown more than 2.2 million kids with the help of EAA’s network of volunteer pilots and ground volunteers, including the members of Chapter 846. Each year we fly young people age 8-17, this year at the Wayne County Airport, 6020 Honeytown Rd, Wooster, OH. Each child will attend a short ground school, followed by a free airplane ride with a qualified pilot. Young People must register in advance and parent or guardian must be present.
