Founded in 1992, the EAA Young Eagles program is dedicated to giving youth ages 8–17 an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers. For more information from EAA headquarters about the Young Eagles program, visit www.youngeagles.org
It’s a unique program with the sole mission to introduce and inspire kids in the world of aviation. Today, the Young Eagles program has flown over 2 million kids and Chapter 33 is proud to be an active participant in this program with many volunteer pilots and ground ground crew.
How It Works
We host events at our airports throughout east central Iowa during the summer months. Youth ages 8-17 years are welcome to attend, accompanied by a parent or guardian who must sign permission before the flight. Experienced local pilots provide your young aspiring aviators with the experience of a lifetime – a short introductory flight! After the flight, children receive a signed certificate, their first official logbook, and the flight is entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook.” which can be viewed online (www.youngeagles.org).
