August 24, 2024 event was held at Tampa Executive Airport (KVDF) at EAA 175 CEC (chapter education center) and was our outreach to support and assist our chapter builders in accomplishing their dream to build their own aircraft.
We had updates from 3 of our builders:
Mitch Johnston did a longer presentation on his numerous mods, updates and finalized solutions to his older Ran’s S6ES kit. He is also moving to a larger storage unit that is 20 x20.
Solutions to finalizing his fuel system, and panel were presented. He brought his panel in and powered up his iPads showing his radio, transponder, main power distribution, and iLevil autopilot and trim system.
He briefly reviewed his documentation of his electrical system (an extremely important step in proper installation, and maintenance of the panel). He covered his trim system and attachment of the iLevil trim/autopilot as adding aileron, rudder and electric trim required modifications to the elevator, rudder and one aileron and he has decided to balance his controls.

Mike Newman has made significant progress on his Murphy Rebel Kit. He brought in his landing gear and the corrections that were made using Fusion 360 and updated drawings. He presented a video of another builder’s modifications and how he plans and will execute his seat attachment rails and aircraft floor as the original Murphy kit he has is significantly different from the original. The Murphy Rebel can accommodate floats, but holes are made in the airframe that would allow water to incur in wet field operations and Mike made detailed and excellent covers for these holes and assured the gear or float attachments had viewing and maintenance access at all fittings for inspection and maintenance. Mike has made sound and light weight additional stringers that correct what appears to be misalignment of premade fitting which will make the floor attachments more robust as done in other Murphy designs. He brought in his landing gear to show the detail in how he used Fusion 360 to calculate the diagonal bracing parts and then showed how he hand-fitted them to a better and more solid attachment and the new gussets.

Ken Trout has recovered from his arm surgery and is excited that (unfortunately at some cost increase), Van’s has finally provided him his finishing kit which includes many of the upper deck components and cockpit components so he can now interface his panel and airframe wiring into the fuselage. He is doing his electrical pre installation work in the airconditioned house and the rest or most of the kit is worked on in his garage.
