Chapter Announcements
- Chapter Gatherings: In addition to our monthly 1st Saturday Coffee & Donuts social event, our chapter will hold chapter gatherings every 4th Saturday from January through May and September through November at Revv Aviation, 9230 N. Harrison St., Davenport, IA 52806 from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM.
- Chapter Potlucks: In the summer months, June through August, the chapter holds a potluck lunch at noon on the second Saturday of each month at a local airports or airstrips. In December, our chapter hosts a holiday potluck.
- IMC Club: The IMC Club will hold a their next event on September 3rd from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Revv Aviation, 9230 North Harrison Street in Davenport, Iowa. The Instrument Meteorological Conditions Club's (IMC) purpose is to promote instrument flying proficiency, and safety. Each month the IMC discusses a flight scenario in which everyone is encouraged to think about what they would do in various instrument situations. The discussions are interesting because everyone brings their own experiences and training. While the topic is typically instrument flying, we have a number of visual Flight Rule (VFR) pilots that participate as well. Are all welcome! Our goal is to make everyone a safer pilot.
- First Saturday Coffee & Donuts: On September 7th, 8:30-11:00AM, we hope to see everyone at our 1st Saturday of the month coffee & donuts hosted by Rick and Shari Meyer in New Liberty, Iowa. Please come and see his Van's RV-14A build and for some good hangar talk.
- FLYING: The Meyer Airstrip is one mile North of New Liberty, IA. Runway 09/27, 2200’ x 90’, turf. Lat/Long: N 41⁰ 43’ 48” (41.73012⁰), W 90⁰52’27” (-90.87421⁰). Elevation: 825’ MSL (estimated). Frequency: 122.900. Obstructions: There is a house and trees on the West end, offset tree on the East end. This airstrip is not on the sectional.
- DRIVING: Just drive to Rick & Shari Meyer’s Farm at 29159 10th Ave., New Liberty, Iowa 52765. Vehicle parking is off the runaway on the north side and up by the farm equipment on the west end. Call Rick Meyer at 563-370-3377 before you takeoff to receive the latest airstrip conditions and if you get lost.
- Chapter Business Meeting: The Board of Directors will hold a business meeting at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, September 11th at Revv Aviation, 9230 North Harrison Street in Davenport, Iowa. We encourage all of the membership to attend.
- Girls in Aviation Day: The Quad Cities International Airport joins organizations across the country in hosting a Girls in Aviation Day. Exhibits on planes, simulators, drones, fire rescue equipment and more are on display to explore. Girls in Aviation Day is Saturday, September 21, 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM, at Quad Cities International Airport, located at 3200 69th Avenue in Moline, Illinois. The annual nationwide event, organized by Women in Aviation International, encourages young minds to be inspired by all the opportunities in the aviation industry For more information, click here.
- Chapter Gathering - September 28: EAA Chapter 75 member Ashley Hanson is the Unmanned Aviation Systems Manager for John Deere. In this role, she manages all the unmanned aircraft operations worldwide for the company. She is responsible for the development and implementation of training, procedures, and policies, acquisition of new UAV technology and use cases, main remote pilot for high-risk missions, and supervisor of assets and personnel using UAVs in their job function.
During her presentation, she will discuss how John Deere uses drones in their business and what her job entails. She will also discuss how she became interested in drones and how to obtain a FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. The most interesting thing she does at John Deere is Drone Land Surveying, which allows her to create an incredibly detailed maps of the land.
Bennett Teitle will also be formally introduced to the chapter as our chapter's 2024 Ray Scholarship recipient. Bennett is also a senior at Pleasant Valley High School in Bettendorf, Iowa, as well as a member of the PNB Aviation Club student build. Earlier this month on Monday, September 2, 2024, he successfully completed his first solo flight.Here's your chance to meet our 2024 Ray Scholar Bennett Teitle and to hear Ashley Hanson's amazing drone presentation. The program starts at 9:15 AM during the Chapter Gathering event, located at Revv Aviation, 9230 N. Harrison St., Davenport, IA 52806. You can arrive early from 8:30 AM to 9:15 AM to socialize, have coffee and a donut.
