The event for January 25, 2025 was an VMC Session at EAA 175 CEC (Chapter Education Center) at KVDF Airport.
Dear EAA Chapter 175 members,
The first chapter meeting of 2025 was held on Saturday, January 25th. Thanks to Roy, Bud and Mike for cooking breakfast before the meeting which featured waffles for the first time (definitely a thumbs up!)
The agenda included an FAA Safety discussion session, with the theme of the session being coping with turbulence. It’s likely many of us enjoy a good rollercoaster ride, but preferably not when we’re in the cockpit up in the sky!
Statistics suggest it’s rare for serious injuries to result from turbulence, and those that do are typically on commercial flights when unexpected clear air turbulence causes sudden changes in altitude. There are, however, potential dangers from wake turbulence that general aviation pilots need to be aware of. The session identified likely scenarios when wake turbulence from jets or helicopters could pose a danger to small single-engine aircraft, with the often-overlooked danger of helicopter wake turbulence receiving special attention.
In chapter business, Hillsborough county recently informed us that the workshop next to our meeting room was not going to be repaired or replaced (damage resulted from a truck striking the building during airport construction/maintenance work last year). Specific plans for the building are still unclear, but we will continue to push the county for clarity on the issue.
Here is Power Point Presentation of this session.
