VMC Club Session

August 19 2023 VMC Club Session

The meeting of EAA chapter 175 on August 19th was a VMC club session that was presented by Ryan McKeon.  This is a long-standing program run by EAA, which uses scenarios and case studies as the basis for open discussion about aviation and safe and proficient piloting (the scenarios are chosen so that there's never just one possible answer).

The August 19th session was focus on accident preparedness and survival.  We all receive emergency training when it comes to engine failure, fire and other events, but what additional details do we need to know to survive an emergency landing in trees, water or other inhospitable terrain and to survive for hours longer until help arrives?

Also Mike Newman discussed  how chapter 175 has been has been successfully qualified by TechSoup to purchase full operation of Fusion 360 Cad software with only admin fee for each license. Autodesk® Fusion 360 is cloud-enabled 3D CAD, CAM, and CAE software for conceptually designing models with freeform or solid modeling techniques and sharing them with other collaborators. Mike discussed the terms at this meeting of using this software that will also involve classroom  classes . Afterwards this will help our chapter get involved in aircraft designs and usage of CNC equipment. I welcome members,  non-members and students who want to attend this meeting to learn  to use this software to develop items in aerospace fields.

Here is the power point presentation on this VMC session.
