Chapter 14

San Diego, CA - Brown Field KSDM

Welcome to our chapter

From Our Chapter President:

Happy Holidays,

Last Saturday we hosted a holiday lunch for our members and guests. There was a great turnout and everyone enjoyed a lunch of roasted chicken and ham. The participants were serenaded with Christmas music and carols sung by our own Chapter member, Kerry Powell. The music was terrific and really served to put everyone in a holiday mood.  We especially appreciate the volunteer spirit of everyone who helped make the event a success.

Our Chapter Young Eagle program has had some changes this past month. Young Eagle Coordinator Hermes Hernandez is leaving for naval officer training school. We are proud of him and want to thank him for all his efforts. Chapter member Grant Rotunda has now stepped in to take his place as coordinator.

This month the Young Eagle program is hosting a Chapter food drive in conjunction with the San Diego Food bank. We will be collecting donations of non-perishable food at red barrels located in Hangar 1 and at First Flight.  I encourage all of our members to participate.

To help promote the food drive there will also be a special event at this month's Young Eagles day. Our volunteer pilots have donated a San Diego harbor tour flight to the person who brings in the biggest food donation of the day. The flight is good for up to three persons.

As the end of the year draws closer, I want to encourage our members to continue to support our Chapter by renewing their membership.

Coming up in January we will be hosting a New Year's Day Chapter flyout to Chiriaco Summit.  Those interested in participating in this event please contact our Flyout Coordinator, Francisco Munoz.

We have many additional activities planned for the new year. They include a rusty pilot seminar in the spring, a Young Eagles STEM activities day, a camping fly-out to Oceano airport, and a Young Eagle movie night and campout at Brown Field.

I want to thank all of our members, volunteers, and pilots who have made this a successful year.  With everyone's help we have been able to restart the Chapter after the pandemic shutdown and return to our normal schedule of Chapter activities.

Best wishes for the New Year,

Trinidad Lopez

We hold monthly membership meetings on the third Saturday each month at 10:00AM.

On meeting days, we serve breakfast in the hangar from 8:00 to 9:30AM, waffles or pancakes, eggs and sausage for $3.00
