Young Eagles

EAA

The EAA Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8-17, an opportunity to experience flight in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.

Since 1992, more than 2.2 million Young Eagles have enjoyed a flight through the program. Young Eagles have been registered in 93 different countries and have been flown by more than 42,000 volunteer pilots.

Participation is easy! Click here to email your contact information to the Chapter 122 Young Eagles Coordinator. He'll connect you to one of our volunteer pilots, or invite you join us for our next Young Eagles Rally at an airport in the Greater Harrisburg area.

Of course, the biggest question on your mind is probably about the actual flight...  So what should you expect?

First, your pilot will explain what will happen during the flight, to include talking about the airplane, reviewing an aeronautical chart (map), identifying reference points during the flight, completing a "walk around" pre-flight inspection of the airplane, and discussing how the flight control surfaces control the airplane.

Once you are ready to go, your pilot will help you buckle in and describe the interior of the airplane, instruments, flight controls, and general safety. Pretty soon, it will be time to go flying!

Once in the air, you’ll see the earth and sky in an exciting new way, experiencing the wonderful freedom of flight that many people only dream about. If you are like most Young Eagles, you’ll remember this experience for the rest of your life!

Most Young Eagle flights last 20 to 30 minutes. Back on the ground, there will be additional time to ask questions... Ask away! Your pilot will be happy to tell you more about flying and their particular plane. You’ll also receive an official Young Eagles logbook signed by your pilot.

Once you have taken a Young Eagles ride with us, you become eligible to apply for a Chapter 122 scholarship to the Air Academy Summer Camp at EAA International Headquarters in Oshkosh, WI. There, campers are engaged through a variety of hands-on activities while staying at the EAA Air Academy Lodge in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  Experienced aviation instructors help them delve into flight through studies, hands-on demonstrations, flight simulation, and other exciting activities. It's the best week a kid could have, and the week-long tuition, room, & board are FREE to scholarship winners (see current application for more details: EAA122 AA App_2022)

Our goal is to for you to thoroughly enjoy an introduction to the exciting world of aviation. We look forward to flying with you and adding your name to the ever-growing list of EAA Young Eagles!
