During our February meeting, Chapter 1218 flight advisor, Ron Hook  gave a talk on safety.  In his presentation, Ron talked about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning in the cockpit.  Ron described the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning as: foggy thinking, drowsiness, headache, nausea and vision changes.  Ron talked about the importance of having a good carbon monoxide detector in the plane.  Ron suggests the CO-EXPERTS 2015 by Aeromedix. 

Ron also suggests that members fly with a first aide kit and a survival kit in their plane.  See Ron's kit suggestions below.

Minimum First Aide Kit Items
Each kit must be in a dust proof and moisture proof container.  The kit must be readily accessible to the pilot and passengers.

Kit:  8 adhesive bandage strips (3" long),  10 antiseptic or alcohol wipe packets,  2 bandage compresses (4"), 2 triangular bandages 40" (sling), 2 gauze roller bandages (4"x5yards), 1 roll adhesive tape 1"x5yds (std. roll), 1 pair bandage scissors.

Body Fluids Barrier Kit:  2 pairs latex gloves, 1 face shield, 1 mouth to mouth barrier, 1 protective gown, 2 antiseptic towelettes, 1 biohazard disposable bag.  Splints are recommended if space permits.

Minimum Aircraft Survival Kit Items
Knife, signal mirror, signal flares (six each), matches in waterproof container, space blanket (two per person), water (one quart per occupant), food (two days emergency rations per occupant), candles, water purification tablets, collapsible water bag, whistle, magnesium fire starter, nylon rope or parachute cord (50 ft.).
