July 20, 2020: Evening Program

In 1999, Chapter member Don Lorenzen flew his Model IV Kitfox to Oshkosh and then on to the east coast.  There he joined with four other Kitfox owners to fly up the east coast into Canada. Their route of flight took them to New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, Labrador, and down the St. Lawrence River.

Don used a digital camera and his laptop to document the trip daily on the Internet and he has put together a terrific PowerPoint presentation. Come join us at the hanger at 7 pm to hear what Don has to say about this great adventure.

Regularly Scheduled Events

MONTHLY FLY/DRIVE-IN: First Saturday of the month; 8-10 am (June - November).  Due to the COVID-19 the Board decided NOT to have a full breakfast.  Instead it will be wrapped foods, coffee and juices.

YOUNG EAGLES: First Saturday of the month 9am - Noon  (May - September) The Young Eagles flights are still canceled.  Check later on future YE rides.

Events are held at the EAA 517 hangar #4 at the East LZ Hangar Complex, 4198 Corporate Way, Missoula Airport.

MEETINGS: EAA Chapter 517, Inc. only has one official member meeting per year, usually in November, to meet the requirements of a Montana corporation.

PROGRAM MEETINGS: EAA Chapter 517, Inc. has special speakers and topics of interest.  Normal programs are the 3rd Monday of the month held at the EAA 517 hangar starting at 6:30 pm.  Sometimes these are preempted during the summer months due to the Saturday fly-in gatherings.  Watch for notices on future programs.

SPECIAL MEAL EVENTS: Five Valleys Flyers has two planned special meal events each year. In February there is the Annual Mid-Winter Chili Feed. On December 17th each year there is the Celebration of Flight Dinner to commemorate the anniversary of Orville and Wilbur Wright's 1903, First Manned Powered Flight and the Christmas holiday.

EAGLE AND YOUNG EAGLE FLIGHTS: Five Valley Flyers, operating as EAA Chapter 517, Inc., conducts regular Eagle and Young Eagles flights based on demand. Often these flights occur on the first Saturday of the month in conjunction with our other scheduled activities. However, off site Eagle and Young Eagle events also are conducted to meet the needs of our surrounding communities. Watch for a 'Flying Start' event (an EAA initiative and introduction to becoming a pilot for adults). Still suspended due to COVID-19.  Check later on future YE rides.

OTHER ACTIVITIES: Five Valley Flyers often participates in the planning and support of other aviation events in our service area. Periodically, the annual Montana Aviation Conference is held in Missoula. In 2018, there was the AOPA Regional Fly-In and a Tryke Fly-In in Stevensville. The Chapter supported all these events and expects to continue such in the future. We also help support the annual Aviation Day in Hamilton each year.
