What Is the Ray Aviation Scholarship?
The Ray Aviation Scholarship is designed to help youth take a major step toward becoming a pilot. Through this program, EAA Chapter 129 supports qualified applicants as they begin and progress through Private Pilot training.
The scholarship is part of a national EAA initiative supported by the Ray Foundation and local EAA chapters. It is intended for motivated young people who are ready to commit to flight training, work steadily toward their goals, and complete the process within the program timeline.
Scholarship Details
- Chapter 129 plans to nominate two (2) qualified candidates in 2026.
- Selected recipients may receive up to $12,000 toward Private Pilot training.
- Funding includes $9,000 from the Ray Foundation and $3,000 from EAA Chapter 129.
- Applicants who have already soloed may receive up to $7,200.
- Recipients are expected to complete training and checkride within one year.

Looking Ahead to 2027
EAA Chapter 129 expects the application process for the 2027 Ray Aviation Scholarship to begin around the end of February 2027. Please check back for updated dates, application links, and instructions.
After Selection
- Selected candidates have 30 days to obtain an FAA Medical Certificate and Student Pilot Certificate.
- Once awarded, flight training must begin within 60 days.
