EAAAsked why she chose the Rutan VariEze as her project, Lynette responded that it ticked all the mission boxes. "It's fast, a delight to fly and, not least, affordable," she said. "It's just about 'bang for the buck' and being able to perform my own maintenance and annuals." And, with performance like carrying 2 adults for a 700nm range at 180mph cruise, exceptional climb and ceiling, well, nobody's going to argue with that.

Lynette purchased this 85%-completed (and somewhat neglected) project on the east coast of Florida in 2022 and has relocated it to her home base at Quincy Municipal (2J9).  Whilst acknowledging that there is still much to do, she is optimistic of completion by February, 2023, or soon thereafter.  In the meantime, she has two major hurdles. The first is locating and securing a suitable 0-200 powerplant. The second - "Just having enough time to do everything that needs to be done," she says.

With the majority of the airframe fabrication completed, Lynette's focus has turned towards powerplant, electrics and avionics.  There are still a myriad of minor, cosmetic tasks to be completed but these she intersperses with her major tasks.

Lynette is planning for a fairly standard  and easily-maintainable electrical arrangement and will configure the instrument and avionic suites to suit her "strictly VFR" mission profile.  Nevertheless, Mode C transponder and ADSB will be a
