EAA’s local chapters are about people, bringing together individuals interested in learning more about aviation as well as sharing their own knowledge. Chapter members are involved in a variety of social and educational activities, including Young Eagles rallies, fly-ins, building seminars, and more, to build awareness in the community.
The initial formation meeting of EAA Chapter 51 was February 2nd, 2019 and the chapter was officially formed on February 21st, 2019. You have joined a new chapter, and as a result, we are still in the process of developing a regular program of activities. Please know that the chapter directors are working hard to organize interesting meetings, Young Eagles events and other fun flying and airport events. All members are encouraged to suggest and recommend meeting topics, field trips and other ideas that they would find interesting or could help coordinate. We had an incredible first year, and we’re climbing on course towards an even more exciting 2020!
During our first year of operation our new group managed to do a great deal. The chapter participated in both the Chatham Airport Open House and the Southeastern Massachusetts Aviation Career Fair at HYA. Our chapter was successful in bringing the EAA B-17 Aluminum Overcast tour to HYA and hosted a weekend long “War Bird” event during October. Most importantly, we held two Young Eagles rallies at HYA and provided more than 20 flights for children ages 8-17 sharing our passion of aviation!
After a very successful first anniversary & open house event on February 1st, 2020 our chapter along with the rest of the world has been adapting to the new ways of the world in the COVID-19 era. After our meetings during March were cancelled, we moved our chapter meetings, board meetings and IMC Club meetings to Zoom during April and continued into 2021 in this manner. In an effort to provide value for our membership and continue to look for ways to share aviation with the local community we launched the "Spring into Summer Speaker Series". Each month our chapter meetings featured a speaker who provided insight in a specific area of aviation. The content included presentations, videos and narrations complete with Q&A sessions.
During 2021 the chapter reengaged in-person meetings and returned to our home at the Cape Cod Gateway Airport in the terminal conference room. The chapter also conducted a successful Young Eagles Rally during June 2021 at the Falmouth Airpark. Moving forward the chapter will continue with in-person meetings and events as long as it is safe to do so.
