Membership in EAA Chapter 256 grants you access to a wide variety of resources.
Airports:
The chapter operates at two Lafayette area airports. Chapter meetings are typically held at the Purdue Airport (KLAF) and several members have aircraft based here. KLAF is in Class D airspace and has maintenance, flight instruction, and an excellent FBO. Visit purdueaviationllc.com for more information.
The chapter also frequently meets at Timberhouse Airport (31IN). 31IN is a private, 3,000 ft. grass field that is open to chapter members to use with permission. Chapter members fly-in to this airport to meet and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. Be sure to communicate on 122.9.
Maintenance and Building:
In addition to the maintenance facilities available through Purdue Aviation, the chapter membership includes multiple A&Ps and AIs. There is also a full maintenance hangar available to builders who need help with any number of construction tasks. The shop includes the full suite of EAA's recommended tool-crib items. This ensures members don't have to invest in specialty and limited use tools for many tasks. There is also a well stocked aviation library available with technical resources to aid homebuilders as well as certified aircraft owners.
Flying:
Chapter members love to fly, and to introduce others to flying. Chapter members fly a wide variety of aircraft including vintage, experimental, and gliders. It is common to find members active with VFR and IFR flying, and aerobatics. Our membership includes multiple CFIAs, CFIIs, commercial, and ATP pilots. Several members of the chapter are also interested in time building and are always looking for pilots interested in sharing trips.
For more information on each of these activities, check the other sections of this site for more details or contact a chapter member. Visitors are welcome at chapter meetings, so if you want to see what membership meetings are like, feel free to stop by.
