The Beginning
EAA Chapter 242 was established in May of 1965. Unknown to each other, Xen Motsinger and Monty Blanton sent letters to the EAA requesting information on starting a chapter. Chapter 242’s initial roster consisted of 15 members. Meetings were held wherever space was available (Columbia Metropolitan Airport, restaurants) until 1970 when a small trailer was purchased. Former EAA President, Paul Poberezny was present in 1990 to dedicate the current home of Chapter 242. The Sport Aviation Center (SAC) is located on the south end of Columbia / Owens Downtown Airport.
