For the past 20 years, she has served as Young Eagle Co-Chairman for EAA Chapter 1229, helping to introduce countless young people to the world of aviation. When not inspiring future pilots, Julie serves as chief of staff to Bill Steier—a role that requires keeping him on course both in the cockpit and in life.
Serena Townsend
Vice President
Serena Townsend brings her professional aviation expertise as a Delta Air Lines pilot to EAA Chapter 1229, where she shares her passion for flying with fellow aviation enthusiasts. Earlier this year, she co-led the chapter's private pilot course, helping aspiring aviators work toward their certificates while drawing on her extensive commercial flying experience. Serena's dedication to aviation education and mentorship makes her a valued member of the EAA 1229 community, bridging the gap between professional and recreational flying.
Jessica Fritz
Secretary
Back in college, Jessica had the time to pursue her Private Pilot License but lacked the financial resources. Now, in this season of life, she finds herself with the means but not the time—a familiar flip that many aviators can relate to. Currently a forever student pilot with hours under her belt, Jessica is working toward her PPL while balancing life's other demands. She deeply appreciates the opportunities that EAA Chapter 1229 provides and values being part of a community that understands the challenges and joys of pursuing flight.
Greg Bauer
Treasurer
Greg Bauer, past president and current treasurer of EAA Chapter 1229, dedicated over 25 years to the chapter's existence. His leadership of the infamous pancake breakfast event helped sustain the chapter's operations and community presence for more than a quarter-century. After four years of training his successor, Jim McKelvey, Greg recently stepped back from the pancake breakfast program, leaving behind big shoes to fill. His long-term commitment and organizational skills have been essential to Chapter 1229's continued success and stability over the years.
