Chapter Gathering - Saturday, September 20, 2025
Chapter 919 will hold its next meeting on Saturday, September 20, at the Winona Airport. This is an open gathering so feel free to invite anyone with an interest in aviation. This month, our speaker will be Mike Thern. Mike served 19 years as the FBO out at Rushford Municipal Airport (55Y), and he is an experienced CFI and A&P mechanic. He flies a nicely restored 1947 Fairchild (pictured below) and is finishing up a new Kitfox project down in Texas. Mike will discuss the FAA's newly released MOSAIC rules and how they will affect pilots and aircraft owners. The phase in of "Sport Pilot 2.0" begins this October, and the EAA has high hopes that the new rules will help expand and revolutionize recreational aviation.
Also, for anyone interested in flying ultralight aircraft, I hope to conduct an introductory meeting after Mike Thern's presentation. Several members and recent attendees have expressed an interest in forming a local UL flying club. Topics of discussion will include: acquiring ultralight aircraft, availability of local hangar spaces, suitable part 103 kits, and where to get training.
