Whether you fly, build, restore or simply enjoy airplanes and aviation, you are welcome to attend our events and join our Chapter.
We are a group of aviation enthusiasts, aircraft builders, and pilots who get together with like minded people to share ideas, exchange information, encourage safety, serve the local aviation community and have a lot of fun doing so.
Our regular monthly gatherings are at the East Hill Flying Club, 62 Brown Road, Ithaca NY 14850, on Fourth Tuesdays of each month. We'll gather at 6:30PM for snacks and pilot talk, with a program starting at 7:00PM. During flying season, though, we'll often have a fly-in barbecue or some other flying event - check our calendar for details. Please come to our next meeting or event as our guest!
Starting in January, 2024, we are also offering an IMC Club, which meets on First Thursdays at 7:00PM, and a VMC Club, which meets on Fourth Wednesdays at 7:00PM. What is a VMC or IMC Club, you may ask? Go ahead, you may. A VMC Club is an EAA program for pilots who fly under Visual Meteorological Conditions (i.e. VFR), which is pretty much everyone, really. As you might expect, an IMC Club is the same format as the VMC Club, except the question and scenarios deal with issues regarding flying in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (i.e. IFR). Even if you’re a VFR-only pilot, it’s still interesting and informative.
The Question of the Month has a correct answer – but the scenario won’t. The discussion will be on the basis of “what would you do?” and there isn’t any right or wrong. That’s the fun of it, examining all the options everyone comes up with and learning how that might differ from what you’d think. The sessions last around an hour – but if the discussions are lively enough, we can go on longer.
The VMC/IMC club sessions will be led by two instructors from the East Hill Flying club. Lucja Kot will lead the IMC Club, aided by Larry Baum. Dave Kornreich will lead the VMC Club, aided by Mike Brown.
