Chapter History

December 18, 1979 - Non-profit entity established in Georgia as West Central Georgia Experimental Aircraft Association, Inc.
Articles of Incorporation were signed by President Bud Schuman (EAA 59262), Vice President LeRoy Storey (EAA 54151), and Secretary/Treasurer Dick French (EAA 146761)
February 6, 1980 - EAA Charter issued
March 1994 - Hosted EAA's B-17G Aluminum Overcast
November 1, 2002 - Recognized as "Earnie Shelton Day" by City Proclamation and airport road named Earnie Shelton Drive
February 14, 2009 - Past Chapter President Earnie Shelton enshrined in the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame

June 29, 2011 - First Chapter website established
July 15, 2011- First issue of Hangar 13 News
February 2, 2012 - Name changed to Chattahoochee Valley EAA Chapter 677, Inc.
April 24, 2012 - First Air Academy Scholarship awarded to Jerad Lewark
May 22, 2012 - Hangar 13 agreement signed
October 27, 2012 - Flew 500th Young Eagle of the Year
June 27, 2013 - First meeting in hangar 13 space
May 1, 2014 - Hosted EAA's Ford Tri-motor
January 31, 2015 - Scout Aviation Merit Badge Event, 30 chapter volunteers trained/flew 91 participants
April 9, 2016 - Dedication of Airport Observation Deck built by Young Eagle Jerad Lewark
August 6, 2016 - First annual Post-Oshkosh BBQ
October 26, 2016 - CSG Proclamation recognizing chapter's support of General Aviation at CSG
November 26, 2016 - 500th Young Eagle of the Year flown
May 4, 2017 - Awarded Section 501 (c) (3) status by the Internal Revenue Service
June 10, 2017 - Young Eagle Rachel Broom earns Private Pilot certificate
October 10, 2017 - Hosted EAA's B-17G Aluminum Overcast
May 28, 2018 - 5000th chapter Young Eagle flown
September 22, 2018 - Young Eagle Jerad Lewark earns Private pilot certificate
September 29, 2018 - Young Eagle Jerad Lewark flies his first Young Eagle
February 2019 - Launched Chapter Roster management
March 5, 2019 - Received 9 out of 10 on Chapter Recognition Program (Top 4% of 869 chapters)
March 6, 2019 - Awarded Ray Scholarship Grant
March 30, 2019 - Launched young Eagles Day registration system
June 28, 2019 - Awarded first Ray Scholarship to Lily Busenbark

December 4, 2020 - Air Academy Scholarship recipient Erik Lawrence scores 87% on Private pilot exam
January 30, 2021 - Ray Scholar Jake Owsley flies his first Young Eagles
April 8, 2021 - 3rd Ray Scholarship awarded to Joshua Owsley
May 12, 2021 - Chapter VP Jack Bartholet receives Wright Brothers Master Pilot award for 50 years aviation experience

May 29, 2021 - Ray Scholar Lily Busenbark flies her first Young Eagles
October 2, 2021 - Ray Scholar Joshua Owsley earns Private Pilot Certificate

April 11, 2023 - Seventh Ray Scholarship awarded to Harry Elliott
April 14, 2023 - Chapter members Ken Sines and Jack Phillabaum receive the  Wright Brothers Master Pilot award for 50 years aviation experience
April 17, 2023 - Ray Scholar John "Ross" Webster earned his Private Pilot Certificate
