Chapter Fly Outs

Each month (Spring through Fall) our chapter members & friends enjoy a flying excursion together to explore other airports around Northern California.

Below is the latest Fly Out. You don't have to be a chapter member to join the FlyOuts. Please use Sign-Up Genius below if you intend to go and/or if you have the availability to take a passenger or two. If you are a passenger looking to ride along, you can sign-up as well.

I would like to remind passengers that pilots greatly appreciate cost sharing in proportion to the number of seats occupied.

Next Fly Out Event!: Saturday December 10, 2022  Note The change!

This change is due to uncertainty in the weather the weekend of Dec 3.

For our next chapter flyout we will try to go to Castle Airport (KMER) in Atwater, CA, a mere 63 nm from KLVK. Of course, the major attraction at Castle Airport is the Castle Air Museum. This is likely our last flyout until Spring 2023.

The runway at Castle airport is a mere 11,800 ft which is long enough for most anything flying. In fact, if landing Rwy31 it is advisable to take the first TWY B but certainly TWY C or you’ll be taxiing back from halfway to KLVK. And, if landing Rwy 13, it’s best to request to land really long or it’ll also be a long taxi.

There are several restaurants and/or food trucks near KMER. We will be trying to decide on a single meeting place closer to the day of the flyout. The museum is a 0.9 mi walk from the parking ramp at the southwest side of the field. The museum is almost a mile from the ramp but Gemini Flight Support, the FBO, has said they will supply transport to the Museum. We’ll meet at 11:30 at Gemini. But, you can certainly arrive early for a longer tour of the museum.
