Mary Jane McGrath Scholarship

The Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 613 invites Vermont residents with at least a private pilot's license who would like to pursue the Instructor's Rating (CFI) to apply for its Mary Jane McGrath Scholarship Award. The Annual Award is $1,000. Scholarship applications and awards may be made anytime throughout the calendar year.

Named for the Vermont aerobatics pilot and CFI who gave so generously of her time and teaching skills before her tragic death in 1993, the scholarship seeks to honor the memory of Mary Jane McGrath by encouraging and helping to finance the effort of talented pilots who want to earn their CFl rating.

PURPOSE: To promote enthusiasm for general aviation in the state of Vermont through aviation education and pilot proficiency. It is named for Vermonter, Mary J. McGrath, 1949-1993, aerobatics pilot and flight instructor who gave generously of her time and talents to her students, school groups and airshow audiences.

ELIGIBILITY: A Vermont resident who holds at least a private pilot's license and who intends to teach flying. This award is designed for someone who will actively pursue the Certified Flight Instructor's rating and then use it to teach others to fly.

APPLICATION: Shall be submitted via this Google form and will be followed with a personal interview. The application for scholarship must include two letters of recommendation, one from a flight instructor, testifying to the applicant's ability and enthusiasm, and the second a character reference. REMARKS: The scholarship funds shall be made out to the grantee and whatever institution that individual has selected for flight training. The grantee must begin training within three months after receiving the award and use the funds within two years. Disbursements will be made as training proceeds. The award will be presented in mid-June, near Mary J. McGrath's birthday.

FOLLOWUP: A member of the committee will keep in touch with the recipient as a mentor throughout the training period.
