It is surprising how much time and effort is required to fabricate and assemble even relatively small parts of the project. One focus today was drilling and riveting in very difficult places in the cabin area. All sorts of contortions and various tools were required to get rivets into only a handful of places. Meanwhile work continued on the small seat supports. Holes for plate nuts were drilled out and deburred. Then Mike instructed a group of us on using the tools to machine countersink the holes. Richard also made progress on the complicated flap controls. Toward the end of the session the baggage compartment bulkheads and the upper forward tailbone skin were removed to begin planning the installation of the brackets that will hold the ELT. As usual much time was spent consulting the plans to make sure everything matched up. The next work sessions will be this Thursday evening February 20th at 6:30 and Saturday morning February 22nd at 9:00. In addition, this week final adjustments were completed on the Cub and Jerry declared it ready to fly. So, on Saturday Tom Young is coming around 10:00 to make the Cub’s first flight since restoration, assuming the weather cooperates.
