EAA Chapter 524

FREDERICK, MD

FDK 1970s

Ernie O'Roark - The Cessna 172 in the photo is a 1969 model judging by the paint scheme. So I would guess the photo is from the early 70’s. The restaurant as we know it wasn’t there. There was a little snack bar with counter seating and a couple of tables where the kitchen is now. Notice the sign above the airplane’s nose. The rest of the building was offices and maybe at one time the FBO. Dr. Crouch kept an office there for a time to do FAA medicals. The FBO was a Piper dealer for awhile, hence the big Piper sign. No idea who the woman is.

The Civil Air Patrol had a big white house on Bailes lane right across from the old south hangars that have been recently torn down. My Cub was in one of those hangars right across from them. They were very helpful during the my restoration, lending me their big generator so we could iron the fabric.
